Day 46: We woke up around 7 in the morning, but it was way too cold to do anything besides... go back to bed! After about an hour we started getting out of bed. After eating some bananas, we drove out to the Haruru Falls and did an 11 km trail run in the most beautiful lush forest. It was such an exhausting run, I tried keeping up with the boys for most of the run, but by the end, my lungs were screaming, and my legs felt heavy as lead. And I knew that, when I'm fatigued, that's when I usually injure myself, so I let them pull ahead, started running at my own pace and just jogged to the end. But wow, such an exhilarating, fulfilling, and energizing way to start the day.
After eating a few more bananas each, we decided to go into Paihia to get some cereal, and more specifially to get some NUTRIGRAIN AND SOY MILK. But on our way back, we saw some kids dancing in the square fundraising for their regionals, so we decided to stop and watch. AND WOW, that was the first time in 3 years since I quit dancing, that I started to feel my heart twinge and ache to move in that way. That was the first time that I began to miss dancing. And I mean truly truly miss it. Not like a, meh I kind of wish I still danced, but like a burning desire to dance. A feeling like if I didn't dance that my soul would just go crazy. So if we pass a dance studio with drop in classes either in NZ or in AUS, I will definitely be stopping by and taking a hip hop class, or street jazz or something funky. Just not a ballet class...
Then we went back and each smashed down 3 heaping bowls of nutrigrain with sliced bananas and soy milk. HOLY YUM. That's all I have to say. I'm legit obsessed. And after our cereal had settled, we decided to go for a super relaxed recovery ride to the ferry, where we'd catch the boat to Russell, which is one of the islands in the Bay of Islands. So we set out for the "recovery ride" and after about 5 minutes, we realized it wasn't gonna be no recovery ride. lol. Just the short 10 minute bike ride to the ferry was already a little rough. But after we got to the ferry port for Russell, the 10 km ride into the town wasn't just a flat road, but it was just constant rolling hills, so you just never ever got a break. As soon as you got up a hill, you'd get a nice descent to rest your legs, but right after that descent, you would be going up a hill right after, so suffice it to say. My legs were pretty flipping dead. But after an hour or so of being in the city, it started raining, so we booked it back to the ferry, just in time before the downpour began.
So when we got back to our little camp home in Paihia, we all showered, did laundry, stretched, ate some more, listened to disney music, and just relaxed before heading into town for our dinner.
We drove into town and first stopped at a Pizza place, then a Thai restaurant for dinner. It was so much fun, the entire time we were guessing riddles, and playing 20 questions. Man I'm seriously falling in love with my time here in New Zealand, it's just so wonderful to have friends around all the time, to not just be on my own and thinking for myself. It's nice to turn my brain off and let others think for me, it's also just so lovely to have people looking out for your, joking around with you, and to just have two pals to chill out with. These two guys are truly such amazing people. Not only are they both so fucking fit and inspiring to me athletically, but they're so sweet and caring. It shows in little ways, like Griff giving me his last gel to help me get through the ride, or Biggi pumping my tires for me to make sure they were the right PSI. They're also just such hilarious people, and the perfect companions for long rides or long drives. They're both extremely good natured, but Griff is so cheeky and sarcastic while Griff is just so patient with such a temperate personality, they balance each other out wonderfully, and I just love being around these beautiful kind loving people.
Anyways after our massive dinner, we decided to go on a search for something sweet. We found some vegan creamsicles at just the local corner store, then also bought another jumbo pack of .... NUTRIGRAIN. LOL. And now we're sitting in the wifi area of our camping ground trying to plan out our next few days, I think we're gonna head back to Auckland tomorrow, then off to Hamilton AKA WHERE THE SHIRE IS.
